COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

EACH STUDENT WILL:

1. Write a required minimum of

  • Two hard-news articles
  • One in-depth feature
  • One interview
  • One survey
  • One poll
  • One film or book review
  • One personal column or editorial

2. Complete a style guide notebook

3. Survive the PowerPoint from Hell

4. Sell a minimum of $200 in advertising. (Credit will be given up to $600 -- after $1000, seller will receive 20% cash commission)

5. Commit to a year-long project

6. Commit to a major project - some year-long constant contribution - like follow one story and publish six episodes

7. Hold a C average at the end of the fall semester to remain in this elective class

THE FINE PRINT:
*Each article can earn up to $100. Articles must earn $50 minimum to be eligible for credit toward required assignments.
**The major project if completed earns a $100 end of year bonus.
***If you have excess cash at the end of the year from miscellaneous articles, you may buy out of required assignments.
****Any required assignments not completed by the last issue of the PAW will result in double-the-max dollar deduction from your final grade score. (i.e. -&200 fine for each unfinished requirement; *****Advertising minimum is due by end of Fall Semester
******At least four assignments must be completed by the end of the first semester.

$800 - 888 = A
$710 - 799 = B
$622 - 709 = C
$533 - 621 = D
$0 - 532 = F

Spring Semester

$2,000+ = A
$1,800 - 1,999 = B
$1,700 - 1,799 = C
$1,600 - $1,699 = D
$0 - 1,599 = F
