Link to the To Kill a Mockingbird Essay Topic

Through literature, writing, and discussion we will examine how the western world has evolved since the times of ancient Greek and Roman civilizations. We will begin with a study of mythology. We will then examine pivotal times in world history, such as the Renaissance, the Age of Enlightenment, Modern Times, our own Contemporary Times, and the future. Our goal is to learn where we started, how that led to where we are today, and where we are going in the future.

We will improve our writing skills. We will study rules, usage, and elements of style. We will practice various forms of writing, including exposition, narration, and description. We will write for analysis, cause and effect, and comparison and contrast. We will also do creative writing, sensory writing, and poetry.

We will improve our public speaking skills by developing presentations to share with the class. We will improve our socialization skills by working in groups.

Expanding our vocabulary and developing a habit of independent reading is also a major goal for our class.
