In 1999 school districts from around the United States were invited to select one to two teachers from their district (depending on size) to participate in the Intel® Teach to the Future Master Teacher Program, which takes teachers through an extensive 40-hour live-lab training on how to integrate technology into the classroom. Co-sponsored by Microsoft®, participants got free training, a free laptop, free software for themselves and their classroom, a $7,000 classroom grant, and an incremental stipend. Teachers learned how to integrate the Microsoft Office Suite™ with the Internet to create interactive, problem-based, classroom projects. Opon completing the Master Teacher Course, Intel® sent me back to my district to teach one workshop a year of up to 20 teachers over the next three years. By the end of the three-year program, I had trained and graduated 54 teachers, approximately ¼ of our district. Intel recently decided to extend the program beyond its original 3-year committment and asked me to continue in the program. I am still active. |
